Statewide Newsletter – July 2012
Dear Green Chamber Members and Friends,
This month, the Green Chamber kicks off its first Sustainable Business Summit in partnership with the New Mexico Business Weekly. Intel’s Director of Corporate Responsibility Michael Jacobson will give a keynote speech outlining Intel’s Corporate Responsibility strategy and its commitment to being a leading corporate citizen. At lunch, the Green Chamber and NMBW will be honoring outstanding Sustainable Business Award Nominees from across New Mexico. During the day, we will be offering recycling, energy efficiency, solar, green team workshops to better your business. Please join us for what promises to be an outstanding event.
This past month, NMGCC board member Carrie Christopher met with Senator Bingaman, Senator Udall and members of the Obama administration as part of the American Sustainable Business Council. Taos business member Cisco Guevara of Los Rios River Runners and Las Cruces member Ben Gabriel from NMSU met with senior officials at the Department of the Interior to advocate for the economic benefits of our national parks and monuments. I would also like to congratulate NMGCC Statewide Sponsor Positive Energy Solar for receiving the Small Business Award of the year from the City of Santa Fe.
The NMGCC also kicked off a commercial recycling program in partnership with the NM Recycling Coalition, which will bring free commercial recycling workshops to every chapter.
Across the state our chapters are very active–from Cash Mobs and renewed First Friday’s in Las Cruces to new offices spaces and recycling trainings in Taos, upcoming Green Drinks events in Santa Fe to a Think Local Guides in Albuquerque. Our chapters are doing fantastic things because of the work of great local leaders, and I would encourage every member to get involved with your local chapter.
Last, the NM Green Chamber begins its work on a policy platform for next years state legislative session. We will begin by developing Benefit corporation legislation, which we outline later in the newsletter–volunteers are welcome.
Thanks to all our members. Our new voice for business is growing stronger each month because of you.
CEO, NM Green Chamber of Commerce
