Statewide Newsletter-February 2012

Dear Green Chamber Member and Friends,

The New Mexico Legislative Session is in full-swing with important bills that affect your business being considered every day. This Friday, we hold our annual Legislative Action Day so legislators can hear from their business constituents directly (see details below). Please join us.

Today is the last day for bills to be introduced and we will release our final platform shortly. In the Roundhouse, we remain focused on Thinking Local First, leveling the playing field for small business, fostering entrepreneurship, open transparent accountable government and advancing a clean energy economy.

This year, we are championing our first bill-HB177 – a Homebuyers Tax Credit for New Energy Efficient homes that will spur the construction and retrofit market, while building highly energy efficient homes. According to Architecture2030, this tax credit of up to $8000 per homebuyer could create 4,500 new jobs, generate $43 million in state/local government revenues and $282 million in construction. Sponsored by Rep. Egolf (D), this bill has received support from Rep. Doyle (R) and Rep. Gentry (R).

On a sadder note, our Las Cruces Executive Director Elisa Cundiff has moved on to Energy Concepts Corporation. We are in the middle of our executive search and welcome highly qualified applicants. We thank Elisa for her tremendous service.

Best Regards,
Allan Oliver
CEO, NM Green Chamber
